Scientific Forum on the Environment, Public Policy and Human Health

Cannon Caucus Room
Cannon House Office Building - Capitol Hill
Independence Avenue SE/New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC
Friday March 13, 2009 3:00 - 5:30 PM

Dear Colleagues:

I am writing to encourage you to accept an invitation from the Federation of Regional, State and Local Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Societies Assembly of the AAAAI to attend an interdisciplinary forum entitled “Environment, Public Policy and Human Health” to be held in the historic Cannon Caucus Room in the Cannon House Office Building, across the street from the U. S. Capitol on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 3:00 - 5:30 PM.

This scientific forum offers an opportunity for Members of Congress and their staffs to interact directly with the medical specialists who provide care to millions of patients suffering with respiratory and immune disorders induced by allergens, toxic pollutants and other environmental irritants.

The interaction between our environment and human health has never been so clear. More than ever we must be available to lawmakers who need our expertise before they write essential healthcare and environmentally related legislation. As a physician-legislator, I understand the unique and valuable assets allergy/immunology specialists possess, and know that by working with Members of Congress, we can partner together to better address environmentally associated health issues.

We are at a very special place and time in our nation’s history. This is the time, and Washington DC is the place, where physicians must advocate on behalf of the patients we serve. For these reasons, I look forward to having you join me and others interested in the environment’s impact on human health at the Environment, Public Policy and Human Health forum on March 13th, 2009.

Sincerely,

Steve Kagen, MD FAAAAI, FACAAI
