2008 National Client Conference, Texas Style

For three days in November, we were all cowboys. We did the Texas two-step, ate barbecue for breakfast, and had more fun than a prairie dog at a rattlesnake convention. But most importantly, we were re-energized, refreshed, and motivated by an outstanding array of speakers. Every year our goal is to give each attendee tools and resources to help make a difference to both internal and external clients, and this year was no different.

Leadership and health care reform were the subjects of this year’s CEO Forum. Over 250 CEOs and senior executives heard from Chip Kahn, president of the Federation of American Hospitals, and Marshall Goldsmith, author of the best-selling book What Got You Here Won’t Get You There. These top executives were led on a journey of discovery of what it takes to succeed in an ever more competitive business landscape

Each year we strive to offer sessions that are both motivational and educational. The sessions this year—including keynoters Vince Poscente, former Olympic speed skier, and Jim Murphy, previously an F-15 fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force—definitely fit those criteria. Other sessions included relevant and timely themes such as patient safety, medical malpractice, employee partnership, HCAHPS, providing world-class customer service, and pay for performance.

There were also sessions led by our 2008 Success Story Award winners who shared their unique improvement initiatives. It is a great pleasure every year at the National Client Conference to recognize our Summit, Compass, and Success Story winners. Congratulations to these exceptional facilities for their commitment to quality improvement.

Our conferences have a reputation for not only the excellent educational content, but we also like to have a lot of fun. The Gong Show Welcome Reception had it all; at what other conference could you find a ventriloquist, a unicycle rider, a sultry country singer, the Unknown Comic, and a Carol Channing look-alike? Tuesday evening’s gala at the Circle R Ranch was a night filled with true Texas style. From the barbequed brisket to the mechanical bull and the two-steppin’ tunes, it was an extraordinary night.

We hope that you enjoyed the conference and that you stepped away from it with new ideas, fresh perspective, and increased knowledge. We look forward to seeing you at our 2009 conference at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on the Potomac in Maryland, (just outside Washington, D.C.), November 16-18.
